CEDEM. Centre for the Integral Development of Mariato
CEDEM is a non-profit Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), whose objective is to ensure the integral development of the Mariato district, seeking the well-being and prosperity of its inhabitants and visitors.
As an NGO, it seeks to offer alternatives that help solve the problems that affect the community and develop activities that promote the economic and social growth of the population. For this reason, it is intended to promote the participation of the different community actors in the region, generating bonds of trust, reciprocity, cooperation and joint work that allow the establishment of the best sustainable development strategies for the district.
Thus, through CEDEM it is intended to achieve the participation of people throughout the district, local businessmen, authorities and other organized community groups in order to unite the efforts and objectives of sustainable development.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE
Promote the comprehensive and sustained development of the Mariato district through proposals that promote security and the socioeconomic and cultural growth of the region.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
- Strengthen the organization with a solid and committed community structure.
- Supervise the work of the authorities in the adequate fulfillment of the different projects.
- Generate new proposals that promote the reduction of poverty, economic growth and cultural management in the region.
- Promote projects with other institutions, local associations, cooperatives, companies and organizations. Promote the responsible and sustainable use of natural and cultural resources in Mariato.
Currently activities of CEDEM
Alternative education (Seedbed): This little school aims to teach children based on activities such as cooking, photography, bird watching and plants. Among other activities without leaving academic subjects aside.
Regarding the security issue, CEDEM has donated video surveillance cameras in areas such as Torio and Duarte for greater security. This project is to have a National Police station in the Torio area. As well as a monitoring room for the cameras already installed and others in the future.
CEDEM is also focused on the issue of recycling, thus preparing a day to raise awareness of caring for the environment.
CEDEM also promotes talks in schools about the importance of caring for nature and the environment, the environment; organize reforestation days, beach and river cleaning activities. So that our future generation can create that awareness of protecting our environment and thus also help combat climate change.
Language teaching: CEDEM provides free language courses for the community in general, from children to adults. Initially we have English courses and soon French.
Entrepreneurship workshops and community gardens, based on permaculture principles. These are other points where CEDEM is focused for the well-being of the residents of the Mariato District in general.
Every year CEDEM, together with the company Torio Properties & Development, organizes a Christmas party for the children of Torio and its surroundings, with the attendance of dozens of people, artistic presentations, games, music and gifts for all the children of the community. Regarding the tourist promotion of Mariato.
CEDEM will be printing the tourist map, with the purpose of making known the companies, activities and tourist attractions of the region.
